Dr. Shermila Jayasinghe is a specialist consultant physician with special interest in diabetes management.
She specialises in managing
o Any adult (>16 years) disease – communicable and noncommunicable
Eg: high blood pressure, heart diseases, lung diseases, kidney diseases, rheumatological diseases and endocrine diseases
o Diabetes in adults and its complications.
She is also an adjunct senior lecturer at Monash University.
She works in Melbourne and has pioneered in establishing a specialist diabetes clinic for local population of nearly 50,000.
She was trained in adult medicine both in Australia and in Sri Lanka. She completed her Fellowship in Australian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2018
and currently registered as a specialist physician in Australia.
She served as a junior associate lecturer for University of Queensland during her work period in Queensland
She won the American College of Physician ‘young physician of the year’ award in 2019 for her exceptional service in establishing comprehensive
diabetes services in her work area in Victoria, Australia. Further she was awarded a fellowship in advanced diabetes management in the Mayo clinic,
USA – the best diabetes research centre in the world.
She was awarded a diploma in advanced diabetes management by University of South Wales, UK for her dedication towards diabetes management.
Her research interests are patterns of diabetes and its complications among Southeast Asian and Australian populations. She is actively involved in
junior doctor education program and is in charge of junior medical education program.
She served the National Hospital of Sri Lanka, No 1 health facility in Sri Lanka throughout her career overseas.
